PLEASE WAIT TO BE EMOTIONAL
Self Initiated Project
The collection explores the interplay between physical sensations and emotional responses through a series of three chairs designed to evoke distinct feelings: distressed, shy, or safe. Rooted in the concept of embodied cognition, which examines how our bodies and sensory experiences shape emotions, the project investigates how visual and tactile interactions with objects can influence emotional states. By subjecting users to specific visual cues and physical effects, the chairs encourage a direct connection between posture, touch, and emotional perception, offering a tangible exploration of how design can elicit psychological reactions.
Each chair embodies an emotion through its form and interaction. SHY encourages feelings of insecurity and withdrawal by guiding the user into a posture of self-containment, with a bowed head and closed body language, creating a sense of hiding or shrinking. STRESSED elicits discomfort through sharp, hard, and pointy structures that metaphorically and physically embody distress, reflecting the harsh textures associated with negative emotional states. In contrast, SAFE evokes comfort and calm by raising the user for an optimal view of their surroundings and providing a protective, curved enclosure that mimics the security of natural, organic forms. Together, the chairs serve as a study in how physicality and sensory design can evoke profound emotional experiences.
